The Cost of a Deep-Plane Facelift

When the phone rings at our facial plastic surgery practice in Edgecliff, our front desk team often hears the question; “I want a deep-plane face lift with Dr Marcells.” That’s no surprise. Deep-plane facelifts are considered the gold standard in facial rejuvenation. The inevitable next question is, “How much does it generally cost?”
The cost of a deep-plane facelift can’t be quoted without a consultation. Here’s why…
Calculating the Cost of a Deep-Plane Facelift
When comparing the price of a deep-place facelift from one practice to another, it is important to consider all these factors:
- Surgical Fee – Surgeon’s fees vary widely, but choosing your surgeon based on price is not a good approach for two reasons. A low surgeon’s fee is a great marketing technique. It is also a great way to lure a patient in to a bait-and-switch or hidden fees contract. “Unscrupulous providers, many of whom are not truly qualified to perform this delicate surgery, artificially inflate the costs related to surgery so that they can make enormous profits while advertising low-low prices,” warns Dr Marcells.
Additionally, “The skill of a surgeon is the most important factor in the success of a deep-plane facelift,” says Dr Marcells. “It takes years of practice and experience to develop superior surgical and aesthetic skills and top doctors are likely to charge more than their less-experienced colleagues.”
A competent, experienced surgeon will likely charge in the range of $35,000 for this specialised procedure.
- Hospital Fee – The location and reputation of the hospital where your surgery is to be performed will impact the cost of your procedure. Deep-plane facelift surgery is an eight-hour procedure, so you hospital fee will include an overnight stay. Dr Marcells performs surgery at the Bondi Junction Private Hospital, one of the leading hospitals in our area.
“A deep plane facelift should only be performed in a setting where every contingency is covered,” says Dr Marcells. “Should a problem occur, only a good hospital will have the personnel and resources to address the situation quickly and safely.” In terms of hospital costs, fees are highly dependent on the location of the facility and the quality of care you receive there.
- Anaesthetist Fee – In addition to administering anaesthesia prior to a procedure, an anaesthetist remains in the operating room during surgery to monitor blood pressure, temperature, consciousness level, heart rhythm, and the amount of oxygen in the blood. Many patients understand that anaesthesia can be dangerous and result in problems during a deep-plane facelift. “The best anaesthetists are those with hours and hours of experience behind them,” says Dr Marcells.
Hourly fees for an anaesthetist also vary widely, based on location and experience. In Edgecliff, an average price is approximately $715 per hour.
Other factors, which impact your out-of-pocket costs, include:
- Medication
- Facial compression garment
- Follow-up appointments
- Skincare regime
Care & Cost for You Alone
Patients who choose Dr Marcells for their deep-plane facelift are given highly personalised service and completely individualised treatment plans. “We focus on the facial rejuvenation patients seek,” explains Dr Marcells, “However an individual’s one-of-a-kind anatomy and physiology dictate what can be done to achieve results that are safe, natural, and aesthetically pleasing.”
In order to offer an accurate cost estimate, Dr Marcells invites patients to come in for a no-obligation consultation. “A consult gives me the opportunity to assess each patient in depth and develop a treatment plan,” says Dr Marcells. “That also gives me the information I need to quote a firm cost for the work..”
