Put Your Best Face Forward This Holiday Season!

Whether you’re getting ready for a non-stop round of parties or plan on taking a more subdued approach to the coming holiday season, one thing is certain: You’ll want to feel your best.
We’d like to help! We believe that to feel your best, it’s important to look your best. At this time of year, non-surgical facial beauty treatments can give you a lift (literally and figuratively), and there are lots to choose from.
In this post, our “beauty team” Nadia Macpherson and Lana McNaught talk about different things you can do to look more radiant.
Injectable Treatments for Facial Beauty
“The stress of the holidays can lead to furrowed brows, crow’s feet, and facial lines,” says Nadia. “Dermal fillers are a wonderful way to improve your appearance by temporarily smoothing facial wrinkles.”
Dermal fillers are also known as “injectables” and “soft-tissue fillers.” They help improve the appearance of ageing skin by:
- Filling in fine lines, deep creases, and wrinkles.
- Filling out wrinkled or thin lips.
- Filling out sunken cheeks.
- Contouring the jaw line.
Some fillers are made of natural material; others are synthetic. “We’ll give you a skin test before the treatment to ensure that you are not allergic to the filler,” explains Nadia.
What happens during a dermal filler treatment? The skin is first anaesthetised with a cream or injection. “Then the patient receives a series of skin injections with the filler,” says Nadia. “The number of injections and the depth depend on what you’re trying to accomplish.”
Although not painless—most patients refer to the sensation as “prickly” —dermal fills generally do not require any downtime. “You should be able to return to your regular routine right away,” says Nadia. “Just be sure to stay out of the sun and avoid strenuous activities for at least a day.”
Some people have a mild, headache-y feeling afterwards, so they take a Panadol. As for visible bruising, “it’s different for every patient,” says Nadia.
Good News for People Who Are “Needle Shy”
Injectable treatments might be a celebrity’s best friend, but not everyone is comfortable with needles.
For patients seeking an alternative to injectable treatments, treatments like microdermabrasion and chemical peels are popular.
What is microdermabrasion? It is a skin-resurfacing treatment that uses a rapidly rotating device to “abrade” (sand off) the outer layers of skin. It is especially useful for:
- Fine wrinkles, especially those around the mouth.
- Sun-damaged skin, including age spots.
- An uneven skin tone.
- Swelling and redness of the nose.
During dermabrasion, your skin is held taut while a small motorised device moves across your skin. This is done with constant, gentle pressure to remove the outer layers of skin and reveal new, smoother skin. Your session can take from a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on the area being treated.
After the treatment, the skin that grows back is usually smoother and younger looking.
Give Yourself a Gift NOW
Don’t wait until “the night before Christmas” to schedule an appointment, says Nadia. “It takes about a week to see the full results from injectables.” Lana agrees, “Skin treated with dermabrasion will be sensitive and bright pink for several days.”
