Facial plastic surgery is continually evolving and so are people’s attitudes, expectations and awareness.

Historically, facelift surgery was primarily considered by individuals over 50. However, recent reports from the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) indicate a rising interest from patients in their 30s and 40s.

This trend is reflected in my practice, with men and women of all ages enquiring about whether Deep Plane Face and Neck Lift surgery is for them.

What is inspiring this trend?

In 2023, Australians spent an estimated $473 million on cosmetic surgeries, with over 32,000 procedures focused on the face and head. Blepharoplasty surgery, facelift surgery, and neck lift surgery remain the most performed surgeries. Analysts estimate the industry was worth approximately $2.6 billion in 2024 and project growth to around $6 billion by 2033.

Social media and evolving beauty standards influence patient motivations, broadening the reasons people seek facial plastic surgery.

Over-use of dermal fillers or inexpert application, resulting in stretched skin or overall unsatisfactory results are other reasons people look beyond the non-surgical.

Regardless of age, this combination of increased awareness in an expanding market underscores the importance of consulting with highly experienced ethical practitioners.

Ethics: Where Experience Counts

In 2011, I was the first ENT, Head and Neck Surgeon in Australia to perform Deep Plane Face and Neck Lift surgery. I contribute to the continuing evolution in excellence through sharing my expertise at local and international multi-disciplinary surgical meetings.

Younger patients have more information and options at their fingertips than ever before. But they still need the wisdom that comes with experience to assess all that’s involved in elective surgery.

Nuance matters. Each consultation with me is individualised. Factors such as prior   dermal filler use, your skin condition and goals are all carefully considered.

My patients are provided with comprehensive information about potential benefits, limitations and recovery, allowing for informed and thoughtful decision-making.

No matter your age, or what’s on trend, ask yourself:

  • Are my goals realistic for my unique facial anatomy?
  • Have I researched potential risks and recovery fully?
  • Am I consulting a surgeon with verified expertise?
  • Have I considered my motivations and discussed them openly with a professional?
  • Is my decision informed and free from external pressure?

The trends of 2025 emphasize individualized care, technical expertise, and transparent communication. These remain the foundation of my responsible facial plastic surgery practice, supporting patients in making informed choices that reflect their circumstances, priorities, and well-being, regardless of age.
