Exciting, International Excellence
I’m writing to you from Dublin, where I’ve just attended the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons (EAFPS) meeting as an invited speaker.
It’s always exciting to attend international meetings – whether as convenor (see below) or guest, it’s an opportunity to mingle with like-minds, each of us committed to excellence.
We share ideas and knowledge as some of the world’s great surgeons and catch up with friends. As well as being stimulating, regularly attending conferences and prestigious meetings is best practise – essential due diligence for our patients.
On the Thursday, I gave keynote lectures on Browlift Surgery and Deep Plane Facelift Surgery.
It was a special privilege for me to present in the same keynote session as my great friend and mentor, Neil Gordon.
On the Friday, I gave lectures on “The Complex Tip” in Rhinoplasty and on Social Media in Facial Plastic Surgery.
I attended the EAFPS conference with three other Australians, Dr Philip Jumeau, Dr Sharam Shahidi, and Dr Aaron Griffin.
The 6th Multidisciplinary Master’s Symposium on Functional and Aesthetic Rhinoplasty was held on 4-6 September in Sydney. I was co-convenor with Dr Peter Callan and Dr Sim Choroomi.
We had international guest lecturers who are some of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in the world, including: Dr Dean Toriumi and Dr Davis, both from USA, Dr Milos Kovacevic from Germany, Dr Ishida from Brazil, Dr Gerbault from France and Dr Goksel from Turkey.
Local faculty included: Dr Philip Jumeau, Dr Catherine Meller, Prof. RJ Harvey, me.
The Symposium started with the dissection workshop at Sydney Hospital where keynote lecturers demonstrated various advanced rhinoplasty surgical techniques. The latest rhinoplasty techniques were demonstrated by the world’s best surgeons.
This was followed by two days of lectures at the Sydney Maritime Museum.
There were more than a hundred attendees from Australia consisting of ENT surgeons and Plastic Surgeons. This mixture of surgeons from different specialties promotes sharing of ideas and advances knowledge. This can only benefit surgical outcomes and patient wellbeing.
