5 Anti-Ageing Must-Do’s for Skin

“Dr Marcells, is there anything I can do to keep myself looking youthful?” is a question we hear frequently at our practice in Bondi Junction. The answer is an unqualified, yes!

In this article, we lay out the rules for keeping signs of facial ageing at bay. Don’t worry, they’re a snap to follow. Best of all: the impact on your wallet is small, but the benefits for your skin are enormous.

SPF or OMG

UVA and UVB rays are the number one contributors to ageing skin, and the damage they do begins when we are just children. That makes daily use of a sunscreen with the right SPF (Sun Protection Factor) your first and most important weapon in the battle for beautiful skin. Ask your skincare professional which product is right for you based on factors including your skin sensitivity, expected time in the sun and activity level.

Drink Early & Drink Often

Hydrated skin is healthy-looking skin. When your skin doesn’t get its RDA of H2O, it will show its displeasure by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. This is not only unattractive, but dry skin is more prone to wrinkling because it is less resilient.

Spice Up Your Life

Turmeric, the bright orange spice that most of us associate with the cuisine of India, is more than just good eats. It’s good skin care! Turmeric has been scientifically proven to control oil and microbial growth on the skin. A turmeric mask can help to sooth inflamed skin and combat redness, dryness, and inflammation. Turmeric is available as a pill, tincture or ointment. You can also make Golden Milk (yum).

You’ve Got to Move It, Move It

Exercise is vital for healthy and radiant skin. Exercise improves vascular health. This makes it easier for your veins, arteries, and capillaries to bring vital nutrition – including hydration – to your skin. Go for 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise. Even walking can help.

Goodnight Moon

A good night’s sleep will refresh your mind and it will also refresh your skin. Make it a point to get eight hours a night of good sleep to ward off puffy skin and puffy eyes.
