Dr Marcells attended school at the Scots College in Sydney’s Bellevue Hill. He was Dux of the College in 1980 when he completed the HSC exams.
Dr Marcells studied medicine at Sydney University and graduated in 1986 with MBBS degree.
From 1992-5 Dr Marcells was accepted for Fellowship training in Otolaryngology (Ear Nose and Throat), Head and Neck Surgery on the NSW Surgical Training Scheme and attained his Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1995.
Dr Marcells then became one of the first Australians to be accepted for Advanced Fellowship training with The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) through the competitive American “Match” process. He trained under the esteemed Professor David Ellis in Toronto specialising in Facial Plastic Surgery through the University of Toronto in 1997-98.
Dr Marcells successfully completed the American Board Exams in Facial Plastic Surgery in 1998.
Dr Marcells then spent a further six months in the USA visiting and learning from well known Facial Plastic Surgeons including:

Dr Peter Adamson (Toronto)
Dr Vito Quatela (Rochester)
Dr Ted Cook (Portland)
Dr Frank Kamer, Dr Harry Glassman and Dr Raj Kanodian (Beverley Hills, Los Angeles)
Dr Marcells returned to Sydney in 1999 where he set up Practice as an ENT and Facial Plastic Surgeon.
